Weekly Workouts & Some Weekend Pics

Yay, I got in 4 sessions of CF this week!  Things started out pretty rough and I couldn't be convinced to leave my couch on Monday, but the workout didn't look too bad on Tuesday so I hit class back to back with Barbell Club.  This week was a deload week at the gym, but I still managed to get pretty sore from all the barbell work and some pull ups.  My back felt ok throughout the week since the lifts were pretty light :)

S - Rest

M - Living room yoga

T - CrossFit x 2
  • WOD: 20 minute AMRAP
    • 200m Row
    • 10 Burpees
    • Alternate rounds with a partner, rest while partner is working.
    • We got 11 rounds + the row + 9 burpees, so close to finishing 12!
  • Barbell Club:
    • 10x1 Deadlifts with a pause at the shin, below the knee, and above the knee, 85#
    • 7x1 Hang Clean with a pause below the knee, 120#
    • 5x2 Squat Clean from the hip, 105#
My CF friends' new puppy and my new lifters that another gym friend gifted me since his wife never really used them.

W - CrossFit
  • Strength: Front Squat - 5 at 40% (55#), 5 at 50% (75#), 5 at 60% (85#)
  • WOD:
    • 800m Run
    • 50 Overhead Squats (45/35)
    • 30 Pull Ups
    • 12 minute cap - I finished in 10:13 Rx!
Th - Rest (and an awesome trip to the chiropractor)

F - CrossFit
  • Strength: Squat Clean - 5 at 40% (65#), 5 at 50% (75#), 5 at 60% (85#)
  • WOD:
    • 21-15-9
    • Power Cleans (95/65)
    • Lunges (no weight, left + right = 1 rep)
    • 6 minute cap

Ugh... I was the only person in class not to finish this under the cap.  I got through 83 reps out of 90, Rx.  In the first round everyone was dropping their bar to start the lunges and I still had 10 cleans left!  My quads were on fire the whole way.  I felt pretty down on myself but I just kept trying to remember that I still got a great workout in and I've come so far!  I used to feel really awkward and unsure during squat cleans and now I love them.  And I know I'm due for a clean PR really soon.  Comparison really is the thief of joy...

S - 9 Holes of Golf + 1 mi walk with Butler - I thought golf was going to be rough since I hadn't played in 2 years, but I wasn't too bad!

And here's some more shots from the weekend. On Saturday we celebrated Carter's first birthday at the Trenton Thunder game!

My Sunday consisted of two back to back baby showers.  A huge congrats to Christine, who's little baby boy Tristan came into the world this week!  He was 6 weeks early and I couldn't believe how amazing Christine looked considering she just left the hospital from her C section.  She's in the middle with the black v-neck dress.

Leah's little bundle of joy is due in October and she was convinced she knew the date of her shower, sometime in August...

And just like that, the weekend is over!

Do you compare yourself to others in the gym?  Did you do anything fun this weekend?

An Exciting Whole30 Follow Up!

My goodness, there are so many things I have to update you guys and post about.  Our wedding anniversary was yesterday and Dave and I really celebrated in style.  I also owe you the next installment of our honeymoon recap (a whole year later... I know, I know)!  And my ode to Puddin' is in the works too.  But in the mean time, I have a special update for you guys!

Remember Leah?
I began to notice that my clothes were fitting better, but more than that, my energy level sky rocketed.  I honestly never thought I would feel this good without coffee and energy drinks.  As I said before, my energy levels were always so low, all I wanted to do was sit on the couch and sleep.  Not anymore.  I get up early, sometimes without the need for an alarm clock, and fall asleep at a decent time.  I am no longer sluggish during the day.  I also noticed that I had ZERO stomach issues.  ZERO!!
I was so happy for her when she got rid of her chronic fatigue, dealt with her stomach issues, and managed her hypothyroid symptoms with the Whole30!  And now I'm happy to share another update from her...

As I had mentioned earlier, my husband and I have been trying to conceive (TTC), but not really trying.  Well that was not the whole truth. After a year of marriage, we decided that it was time to start our family.  At the time, our living situation was NOT ideal, but we were both ready, so we began the process.  I have to say, this is for sure the super fun part!  Until it was a year later and we still were not pregnant.  I know that I was under a lot of stress living in a house with 7 other adults who had their own idea of how to run a household.  It was too much for me to handle, and as they say, being stressed and TTC do NOT mix. When we finally moved out of that house and into our own, I felt the stress lift and knew that part of our lives was over.  We were serious about trying and after a few months of nothing, I was becoming increasingly frustrated and upset.

Voicing my concerns with Amber, she introduced me to this fabulous book called Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  Now, when I say this book was a life-changer, I am not kidding.  The book is such an easy read, totally relatable, with amazing information about the female reproductive system and much more.  As I read, all I kept thinking was, "Why has no one taught me this before!! When we were getting the birds and the bees talk, I would have much rather learned about THIS than the standard, this is a penis, this is a vagina..." The book teaches you everything you need to know about your cycle, how to chart, and basically how to become in-tune to your own body (whether you're trying to conceive or trying to prevent pregnancy).

I began to take my temp every morning before getting out of bed and charting the other fertility signs (that I will leave that up to you, dear reader, to investigate) and I suddenly became aware of how long my cycles are, when I ovulate (believe it or not ladies, not everyone ovulates 14 days after their cycle) and many other things.  Weird things, like my sense of smell became more sensitive around my ovulation times...

Anyway, after a few months of getting to know myself, I began the Whole30.  I just felt like my body needed a reset.  And with that said...

A HUGE congratulations to Leah and her husband Pete!  I knew I had read online that the Whole30 has helped couples conceive, but I never would've guessed that it would be the final piece of the puzzle for my dear friends.  I am so happy for them!

And tomorrow is Leah's birthday, Happy Birthday Leah <3

Wedding Warm Up

Thank you all for the wonderful feedback and love in the comments of my last post Red heart

It’s the weekend, are you pumped?  Two of my good friends are getting married this weekend so it’s going to be a good one!  I got to leave work at 11 am yesterday to go get my nails done with the ladies!  Chilling in the massage chair with a mimosa in my hand was way better than work!  I got a gel manicure which isn’t supposed to chip for 2 weeks, I’ll believe it when I see it.  I already tripped in the parking lot and chipped my pedicure… dainty lady fail!

I took a ton of pictures at Leah’s bridal shower and bachelorette party, but I never found the time to share them here so why not kick off their wedding weekend with some photos!

Omg, I can’t wait!  My neighbor did my hair bright and early, and soon the groomsmen will be coming over for a hearty lunch and to get ready, and the rest of the day will be spent celebrating!

In other news, my camera suffered a tragedy, but I got a brand spankin’ new cell phone with decent camera!  It’s the Samsung Galaxy SIII and I am still deathly afraid I’m going to drop it!  My birthday is coming up in August, so hopefully my phone can do the trick until then.

Do you have anything fun going on this weekend?  Do you love weddings?

Can we go back this weekend?

I've been busy busy, I need to catch up and fill you guys in on my weekend!  Friday night we headed down to Cape May.

I love that feeling you get right at the start of your vacation, anticipation, freedom, excitement.  It was only a weekend, but we were both thrilled to enjoy a cold cocktail on the front porch as the sun set right when we got there.  Our night continued with a search for good eats.  We tried to hit up the raw bar, but unfortunately it was already closed for the night, womp for off season hours.

We saw people eating on the dock, so I was convinced we just missed it, bummer!  Next we headed to one of our fave bars, The Ugly Mug for some pub fare.

We ended up heading home and going to bed early after dinner.  We must really be getting old, but getting 10 hours of sleep was glorious!  Our weekend continued with sticking our toes in the sand and running into some friends that we ended up joining for breakfast.

The beach was super chilly, especially since it was so windy on Saturday, so we headed back to the house and I did some sunbathing on the back porch while Dave cut the grass.  And then it was time for a run.  I was really looking forward to running around Cape May, but then it was time and I really didn't want to leave my lounge chair.  I rallied myself and headed out the door with my camera.

I've absolutely fallen in love with Cape May.  Before dating Dave I'd never been and now I don't want to go anywhere else.  Well... except for Long Beach Island!  We left Cape May Saturday afternoon and headed north to spend the night with Leah and Pete.  We feasted on delicious tuna, drank way too much tequila, and laughed so hard our sides hurt.

Those are our tequila smiles!  The next day, our Easter started off with some egg dying, mimosas, an epic breakfast, and a walk on the beach.  Perfection.

And then there was this crazy guy at the beach...

Straight crazy!  The rest of our holiday was spent feasting and chatting with family.  What a wonderful weekend!  I hope you had a good holiday too.

Have you ever gone in the ocean when it's super chilly (like a crazy person)?!  Where's your favorite beach spot?
